VOPUS is co-creating three pilots of growing scale and complexity. Each pilot brings elements of an opera house's artistic and technical work, casting, staging, live performance, into OperaLand, a persistent, participatory virtual world, rather than restaging a live show as a virtual broadcast.
Every pilot is co-designed with community partners to widen participation, inform our research, and test accessibility, building on what was learned in the one before it.
More information about the pilots will be added to this section of the website as they become available.
A single opera house begins bringing elements of a production into OperaLand, exploring how audiences can take part rather than simply watch.
A second opera house joins, combining content and audiences from two productions within OperaLand for the first time.
Several opera houses converge within OperaLand at once, the most complex test yet of what a shared, participatory virtual opera world can be.
