OperaLand

A virtual world where opera is something you do, not just watch and listen.

OperaLand is the persistent virtual world platform being built and operated as part of VOPUS. It is a shared online space accessible across everyday devices rather than requiring specialist equipment - where people can experience opera, take part in performances and events, and contribute to research on how virtual worlds affect culture and community.

What you can do in OperaLand

Opera brings together music, drama, design, and community, often on a grand scale, and often behind real barriers of cost, geography, and familiarity. That makes it an ideal test case.

01

Attend

Experience opera performances and events inside a shared virtual space.

02

Participate

Take part in performances in virtual worlds and become part of the action.

03

Create

Contribute your own ideas and creativity to how opera is staged and shared.

04

Contribute

Help build the evidence base on how virtual worlds affect culture and community.

Built to be accessible

Operaland is designed for everyday devices, including phones, tablets, and computers - not just VR headsets. Accessibility features such as captioning and sensory options are being built in from the start, so more people can take part on their own terms.

A visual walkthrough of the platform will appear here as it takes shape.
